My name is Michael Fairweather, founder of Real Life Financial Planning. I discovered the Kinder Institute of Life Planning in 2008 and was truly inspired by the approach to life before wealth. I believe that you can’t advise a client without knowing what’s really important to them and what goals, objectives, hopes and dreams they have. Only once you’ve helped them to realise what they’d really like to do, can you help them to achieve it through their finances.
I started my career in London working for a firm of chartered accountants and then a private bank. After acquiring over 10 years’ experience as a fee-based financial planner, I returned to Edinburgh to build my own financial planning practice.
Having been trained by the Kinder Institute, I’m one of only a few advisers in the UK who, in addition to being a Chartered Financial Planner and a Certified Financial Planner, is also a Registered Life Planner.
The Registered Life Planner designation is awarded to financial planners that have made a significant commitment to understanding the psychology of money and the human side of financial planning.
I’m also one of only two Masters of Life Planning in Scotland.
